This video clip shows the sheer beauty of the Kingfisher's plumage

The colours are so bright you can see them reflected on the surface of the water when he flies.  When I say 'he' you can tell this is a male Kingfisher because the beak is uniformly black.  The female has an orange coloured lower mandible so you can remember the lady wears orange lipstick (and so do some young males!)

It is thought that bobbing head action of the Kingfisher helps it to accurately calculate the precise angle to dive and still catch it's prey despite the refracting angle caused by water.
